On February 9, 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Canada signed the Veterans Ready Employer Proclamation during the Veteran Employment Symposium at the Invictus Games Vancouver-Whistler 2025, underscoring the company’s commitment to establishing Canada as a leader in veteran-friendly workplaces. Jesse Dougherty, Vice President of Network Edge Services, represented the company during the pledge, reinforcing Amazon’s dedication to supporting veterans in the workplace. The symposium, hosted by True Patriot Love, Canada's foundation for the military community, was attended by the Honourable Darren Fisher, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, members of Parliament, along with other senior elected officials. This pledge builds on Amazon’s global initiatives, which have helped over 100,000 veterans and military spouses find meaningful careers since 2011.

Beyond this, Amazon has long prioritized hiring and supporting military talent, offering dedicated programs and policies to help veterans and military spouses thrive in their careers.

Warriors at Amazon: A Community for Veterans

Warriors at Amazon is one of Amazon’s 13 affinity groups and one of the few in Canada specifically for veterans, military spouses, and military-connected communities. The Canadian chapter was founded in 2018. It serves as both a support system and an advocacy network, fostering a space where veterans feel valued, included, and empowered in their civilian careers.

Groups like Warriors at Amazon play an invaluable role in helping veterans navigate the transition to a civilian workplace, offering networking opportunities, professional development, and a strong sense of camaraderie.

Supporting Military Veterans Through Policies and Programs

In addition to Warriors at Amazon, Amazon recognizes the unique challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian roles and offers targeted programs to support them, including:

  • Paid Military Leave Policy: Introduced in May 2023, this policy provides up to 14 days of paid military leave per year, allowing veterans to fulfill their military commitments with a guaranteed return to the same or a comparable role.
  • Military Ambassador Program (MAP): A structured, year-long career development program that supports transitioning veterans through training, mentoring, and career-building opportunities.
  • Military Mentoring Program (MMP): A mentorship initiative that pairs new veteran employees with experienced Amazon mentors to help them translate their military experience into Amazon’s team-based culture.

Through Warriors at Amazon and initiatives like MAP and MMP, Amazon is dedicated to ensuring veterans feel valued, supported, and empowered in their careers.
