The importance of tech to funders
We took a close look at the North American NPO sector in a recent study, and found that tech adoption is becoming a priority for those funding non-profits. Funders believe modernized technology, including cloud adoption, is important to overall non-profit organizational effectiveness – meaning the AWS Imagine Grant could be a huge boom to recipients.
The AWS Imagine Grant’s "Go Further, Faster" award, now available in Canada, aims to support ambitious and innovative projects that leverage cloud technology, encouraging NPOs to think big.
Recipients of the award in the United States and the United Kingdom have included:
- United Ways of California, which is using generative AI to help the state better respond to disasters like wildfires, floods, and earthquakes.
- The National Audubon Society, which is developing a suite of AI, ML, and LLM-powered tools that make bird identification by sight, sound, or photograph effortless;
- Stop the Traffik, an anti-human trafficking organization that was able to improve the quality and accuracy of its data points;

Creating solutions
Canadian projects that qualify for the AWS Imagine Grant are those with the potential to create scalable and repeatable solutions that could impact entire industries or fields. AWS’s goal is to act as a force multiplier for organizations, allowing them to make a more significant difference in their respective sectors.
"Go Further, Faster" awardees can benefit from up to $75,000 USD in unrestricted financial support, which can be a critical resource for organizations looking to expand their reach and enhance their impact.
Additionally, recipients will receive up to $25,000 USD in AWS Promotional Credit, enabling them to access a range of cloud services as they develop and implement their projects.
The AWS Imagine Grant provides valuable project implementation guidance from AWS technical specialists, ensuring that organizations have the support they need as they navigate the complexities of cloud technology. This support provides them with the tools to build their skills and optimize their use of cloud resources.
