Amazon’s commitment to community engagement was on full display earlier this month as students from Pitt Meadows Elementary School became the first group to tour their local Amazon delivery station, DVC4. This educational visit provided the students with an inside look at how Amazon’s ‘last mile’ network processes and delivers thousands of packages every day.

The French immersion students were guided through the facility by Senior Station Manager Yousef Khosravi. The tour began with a safety briefing and a video presentation that explained the operations at the Pitt Meadows facility. Following this introduction, the students were taken through the inner workings of the 145,000 square foot building, where they witnessed live demonstrations of how the centre processes and loads between 55,000 and 90,000 packages each day before dispatching them across Metro Vancouver.

Khosravi emphasized the importance of these tours. "Because we operate within the community and serve this community, we need to be engaged with the community. As a part of that mission, we want to show the community what this Amazon delivery station is all about."

Building Community Connections

Area Manager, Ahura Abtin highlighted the educational value of the tours, saying, "It’s a great opportunity to show different schools in the community what we do behind-the-scenes." This initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding of Amazon's operations among local students, providing them with a unique learning experience.

Despite this being the first student tour at the facility, DVC4 employees are no strangers to community engagement. "We have Pitt Meadows Day that we participate in every year," said Khosravi. "And we donate and contribute to a lot of charity organizations within the community."

The successful visit by the Pitt Meadows Elementary students highlights Amazon’s ongoing efforts to foster strong community ties and provide educational opportunities. By opening its doors to the next generation, Amazon not only showcases its operational excellence but also reinforces our commitment to being an active and supportive member of the communities where our employees live and work.
